Wait For You by Jennifer Armentrout/J. Lynn Blog Tour: Review

“I’m confident enough in my masculinity and sexuality that I can say that Ryan Gosling is just dreamy in this movie.” ~Kindle Locations 1583-1584)

Some things are worth waiting for…
Traveling thousands of miles from home to enter college is the only way nineteen-year-old Avery Morgansten can escape what happened at the Halloween party five years ago—an event that forever changed her life. All she needs to do is make it to her classes on time, make sure the bracelet on her left wrist stays in place, not draw any attention to herself, and maybe—please God—make a few friends, because surely that would be a nice change of pace. The one thing she didn’t need and never planned on was capturing the attention of the one guy who could shatter the precarious future she’s building for herself.

Some things are worth experiencing…

Cameron Hamilton is six feet and three inches of swoon-worthy hotness, complete with a pair of striking blue eyes and a remarkable ability to make her want things she believed were irrevocably stolen from her. She knows she needs to stay away from him, but Cam is freaking everywhere, with his charm, his witty banter, and that damn dimple that’s just so… so lickable. Getting involved with him is dangerous, but when ignoring the simmering tension that sparks whenever they are around each other becomes impossible, he brings out a side of her she never knew existed.

Some things should never be kept quiet…

But when Avery starts receiving threatening emails and phone calls forcing her to face a past she wants silenced, she has no other choice but to acknowledge that someone is refusing to allow her to let go of that night when everything changed. When the devastating truth comes out, will she resurface this time with one less scar? And can Cam be there to help her or will he be dragged down with her?

And some things are worth fighting for…

When you say Jennifer Armentrout is writing another book, but will be under her pen name, J. Lynn there are a few things that go through your mind:
You will fangirl a moment
You realize it’s under J. Lynn which means STEAMYNESS!
But it’s still from Jen so you want it now, now, now!!!
Now that will happen and not necessarily all in that order. And it is what I experienced when I heard that she was going to release a New Adult book. I was so excited and had such high expectations. And I saw a couple others read it (Kay and Val, you lucky ducks) and they totally loved it. So I was really excited because I love Jen. And I love all her books, even though I haven’t read every single one yet (hides from the flying stones) I was excited to see where her talent would take her without an age restriction. I mean some of the scenes between Daemon and Katy are so hot my books start to steam. So when the opportunity to sign up for the blog tour came around I jumped on that like a mad hatter. Val’s approval of me for the blog tour brought on more fangirling moments and then the time to hunker down and read the puppy!!!

So I read the book and well, I hate to say this but I didn’t totally love it. I didn’t hate it, but I wasn’t in love like everyone else was. I think I might have become a bit harsh lately. My reading funk hasn’t helped much. I'm wanting something epic and amazing and looking for something completely unique and if a book doesn’t have that then I get a bit disappointed. And I think that is what happened with this book. This book came with such high expectations that it just didn’t live up to them for me. Its how I feel about Divergent and Vampire Academy. I don’t hate them, but I'm not head over heels in love like everyone else. I finished the book and can say I don’t regret reading it, but I wasn’t head over over the moon in love like I’d hope to be.

I cam across a review on Goodreads that stated “My largest complaint about this book is it uniqueness. Namely, I think that it is entirely lacking in it.” And for me that perfectly sums it up for me. If you read the rest of that review, it pretty much states perfectly how I feel about this book. I didn’t feel that this book had a uniqueness to it that would have had me enjoy this book more. The book was predictable and just didn’t break the mold to be a stand out NA read.
Cam looked absolutely thrilled to hear that. “You’ve been checking me out, haven’t you? In-between your flaming insults? I feel like man candy.”~Kindle Locations 1109-1111
Now this is the part of the review where I might be considered mean and I might start to receive some bad looks but I have to be true to my readers.

I felt like Jen was following a checklist on how to write a NA book.
Sexy hero who is:
  • Dark hair
  • Blue eyes
  • Built like a tank but soft and still sexy and his junk is impressive
  • A panty combusting machine
  • The town player.
  • He’s got dimples.
Our leady lady is:
  • Pretty, but doesn’t think she is.
  • Had something happened in her past that was horrible (and I admit what happened was shitty, but again for me, predictable).
  • Moved away from sad past to a new place to start over.
  • Is dumb and awkward around the hot boy.
On the plus side for Cam, he isn’t a bad boy (I mean I love a bad boy, really I do, but it’s nice to have one that is just a sexy man whore.) Also there were times when our Avery was being a dumbass and he didn’t tolerate her shit!! I was a big kudos for me!!!
Now miss Avery pissed me the fuck off. The only other leading lady that pissed me off more from a novel was Kiera from Thoughtless. I honestly don’t think she will be topped but Avery came close. Is it really so shocking that Cam walks out on you when you keep pushing him away?? NO!!!!! Seriously!!! Like you keep pushing people away you will push them right off a cliff. Hello!!! And what kind of person walks around totally mute and wide eyed all the time when a hot boy is around?? Seriously. I get a first glance like WOW who the fuck is that fine piece of meat, but every damn time!!! Ugh. Just ugh!

Continuing our check list:
  • We have the gay best friend. I do enjoy a little humor and his personality, but just again, typical.
  • Totally awesome new best friend.
Now I have to say I never mind the totally awesome best friend in these novels. Brit was AMAZING and I seriously want to see a novel from her. Like I really want her and Ollie to get together. Just saying. Although I could have done without the mayo and fries. That’s just nasty!! And speaking of Ollie, again a totally awesome best friend. I found the secondary characters more interesting than the main characters! And I'm just going to call Ollie the Daryl of the story. And if you don’t know who Daryl is, then you really shouldn’t be reading this because I don’t know the heck you are!!!
But their mood was contagious and I found myself laughing as Jacob tried to convince a guy at another table that if a zombie bit a vampire than it would become a zombie vampire while the other guy was convinced that it would become a vampire zombie. ~Kindle Locations 1398-1400
Again there were a few things that kept me reading this. If it wasn’t a Jen book I would have stopped. I didn’t enjoy that Cam didn’t take any of Avery’s shit and I enjoyed the secondary characters. ALSO I love the fact that Jen pretty much puts a whole bunch of her twitter jokes and tweets into her books!! It lets us readers know that she is interactive with her fans and that is just awesome!! Like the whole zombie/vampire argument just cracked me up. Plus all the Supernatural references. You can never go wrong with Dean.
Mmmmm Dean…swoon.
Overall Wait For You is a decent read. If you are exploring the NA world and want something great to read then this would be it. If you are an Armentrout/Lynn fan then you totally want to pick it up. I look forward to more books in this series and hopefully the voices will be unique and can captivate me the way Daemon has. Even though this book wasn't unique enough for me I still really enjoyed it. And looking over my notes and all (yes I take notes while reading) I'm finding this book a bit swoonable. Still, this book was enjoyable but not unique.
“What are you up to?”
“Oh, you know, mischief and mayhem,” he replied.
“That so reminds me of Harry Potter,” Brit said, sighing. “I need a re-read.”
We all turned to her.
Two bright spots appeared in her cheeks as she tossed her blonde hair back. “What? I’m not ashamed to admit that random things remind me of Harry Potter.”
“That guy over there reminds me of Snape,” Cam said, jerking his chin to the table behind us. “So I understand.”
The guy with the jet-black hair did kind of look like Snape. ~Kindle Locations 1212-1217

  4. This was a really great read. It tackles the very serious & heavy topic of sexual assault but Lynn manages to effectively add some laughter & comedy to lift the story. Dramatic, touching and a beautifully entertaining read! I am absolutely dying to read the next book!
