Review: Silver by Talia Vance

The thought comes from nowhere, strong and insistent. I force myself to keep it together. Rationally, I know there’s no such thing as death by dimples. So Blake is talking to me; there’s nothing to freak over. ~p. 11

"As I step into the room, a silver flash blurs my vision. Before I can take a breath, the world falls away."

Brianna has always felt invisible. People stare right past her, including the one boy she can't resist, Blake Williams. But everything changes at a house party where Brianna's charm bracelet slips off and time stands still. In that one frozen, silver moment, Blake not only sees her, he recognizes something deep inside her she's been hiding even from herself.

Discovering she is descended from Danu, the legendary Bandia of Celtic myth, Brianna finds herself questioning the truth of who she is. And when she accidentally binds her soul to Blake, their mutual attraction becomes undeniable.

But Blake has his own secret, one that could prove deadly for them both.

Bound together by forbidden magic, Brianna and Blake find themselves at the heart of an ancient feud that threatens to destroy their lives and their love.

Gripping, thunderous and otherworldly, Silver is one of the best debuts of the year. Talia delivers a new paranormal read that will keep you entertained well into the early morning hours. You will get sucked into another world and it will leave you craving more.
I didn’t move. He lowers his chin and looks from underneath thick lashes. I know its just a bracelet, an accessory. There’s no logical reason for me to keep it from him. But nothing about Blake or the feelings he stirs in me has anything to do with logic. Everything is driven by some primitive instinct, animalistic urges that I should damn well ignore. I unfurl my fingers, one at a time, still covering the bracelet with my palm. ~p. 54
Danu, Celtic Goddess from which Brianna
is a descendent.
I loved this book. I decided to just read a couple chapters to see if I would like it and I got sucked in!!! I seriously went from page one at like 11 pm and the next thing I knew it was 3 am and I was halfway done and cursing my eyelids for preventing me from going further. I was wrapped up in the silvery bounding soul-swapping embrace and didn't want to be let go.

Talia’s writing is wonderful and Silver is a book that will definitely keep you entertained. And what makes this so wonderful is that you get to learn about a new mythology. And that is what really saves this book from being just another paranormal romance book. This year I have had my Greek mythology craving fulfilled (Thank you Brodi and Everbound), I have had my Norse mythology craving fulfilled (thank you Lesley and Starling, which I LOVED!!! The Norse mythology of it was so original and exciting), and now thanks to Talia I have fulfilled a new mythology craving, Celtic! And that was so exciting. I am a sucker for any mythology lore and really love learning about different mythologies and that part of Silver was really wonderful! It was refreshing to learn a new mythology.
“Perhaps phantom genes are not genes from our past. Perhaps these genes are the building blocks of our future. Recessive traits that will someday be triggered by cataclysmic change or the pairing with a perfect genetic partner. The preverbal lightening strike.” ~p. 69
The characters are so intricate and I kind of love all the sons except Jonah. He is still an ass. I loved all their interactions and everything. I know some people might have an issue with some themes that are found in this (like guys only notice you when you are hot and one of the pretty girls) but if you think of it as part of the mythology and this is a paranormal book and not a contemp, it works. I don’t have an issue. I kind of had an issue that it was a bit insta-love and what not. But still loved it. I really want more of these characters and more of this world.

I am so ready for the next book, like yesterday!!!! The plot is outstanding and keeps you on your toes and isn't like anything out there! And ooOOoOooOOo hello sexy boys! Really!!! I love all the main characters and supporting characters. Even the crazy best friends! It also spoke to the science nerd in me and I totally loved that!
Dad grins. “Couldn’t resist an even with your mom and dad, is that it? I can make popcorn and put in The Lion King.” The Lion King is my parents’ cure-all, whether I'm sick or just having a bad day. “Do I look like I need a Lion King intervention?” I wonder if the cracks in my façade are starting to show. If they can tell that is starting again. ~p 61
Silver a torrid and tantalizing experience and man there is so much action in the beach you will never look at sand the same way again!!! I loved all the action, betrayal and the journey you go on with Brieanna discovering who she is and what it means to have power. Silver is an exciting, fast paced, non-stop entertaining novel! Once you are finished, you will have gone through your own silver glowing, soul binding experience and you won’t soon forget it (or want to)!
I'm exposed and defenseless, like a white blood cell pressed on a glass slide. I have to look away. I focus on the ceiling, where hundreds of glowing stars float in intricate patterns, a perfect starry night. An illusion. The stars are the kind you can buy in a fancy toy store, simple phosphors that can be energized with light. ~p. 18
